Coalition government in GreeceΔημοσιεύθηκε: 12/05/2012
We are one week after the elections here in Greece and still there is no new government formed.
In brief, the political parties gave up their efforts of forming a coalition government and today they are holding a meeting under the President Of Democracy.
During last week the main problem remained the interpretation of the election result. Despite people voting strongly for parties that are clearly against the austerity measures imposed by the IMF, the socialist party and the conservatives party, PASOK and NEW DEMOCRACY, insist that the new government must conform with the obligations derived by the rescue agreement and gradually negotiate some changes. Left party, SYRIZA, that surprisingly took the second place in the elections, declares in and out of Greece that since there must be a coalition government, this should deny to apply the new austerity package. The other left party,DIMAR, tries to compromise the situation, which however was lead to a dead end.
